Isys Band Brings Down the Garage!

Tortured SoulThe Vapors, Nena and Scritti Politti…I used to think that no one else could compare. I guess I was wrong. You see, I discovered this little, and I stress little, known band last weekend. You could say they blew me away. This is the stuff legends are made of.

Who are they? Let me paint a picture…It wasn't the best of times in Oakland and yet it wasn't the worst, either. Three girls and a guy from the local web design shop, Isys Idea Systems, Inc. decided that they needed more out of life than Adobe Illustrator®, Dreamweaver™, cold coffee and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They had a vision, a dream. They wanted to be rock stars.

They assembled "the band" last August and played their first gig in Isys partner Sally Dew's garage. "I was so excited that they wanted to play in my garage," said Dew. "I feel so privileged to have a band of their stature perform in my very own garage."

And "perform" they did; for five hours, with a play list of twenty songs including: Jailhouse Rock, Fly and Get Off This. "I've played with some real powerhouse bands in my time, but nothing compares to these guys," said fill-in bassist Goob McConnel.

Keepin' the beatTheir raw sound tantalized the audience. Leigh Moyer's guitar solos begged the crowd to scream, for more, that is. The graceful drumming of Kristen Perine mesmerized the audience. The passion of Brenden Shepard (vocals) and Doug Perine's (guitar/vocals) duets inadvertently consumed all who listened.

Guest vocals by Lisa Radigonda and Beverly Figueroa, and a special appearance by the Dew Sisters featuring Lameana Sumpter and friend literally brought the house down.

What's next for this foursome? "We're getting excited for our upcoming tour," said Moyer. "Starting next month the band will embark on a five-year tour of Isys employee garages." (There are only 15 Isys employees.)

"Need roadies, desire groupies," said Doug Perine with a sly smirk on his face.

Oh yes, the name of this extraordinary band…Honestly, I don't know. Does it matter?

We WILL Survive!
