Oakland-based
Isys starts nutrition website

OAKLAND -- What
do Melissa Etheridge, the Port of Oakland and the Dairy Council
of California have in common?
The answer is
Isys Idea Systems, an Oakland-based, woman-owned interactive design
company that makes, maintains and markets Web sites. BART, Dreyer's,
Bush (the band) and career site MyRoad.com are among its other major
clients.
On Friday, Isys
launched an interactive nutrition resource site for the Dairy Council,
www.dairycouncilofca.org.
The Dairy Council wanted to help people make healthy food choices
by providing them with a source for information about nutrition
and events. It enlisted Isys to make it happen.
Isys President
Cathy Dew said her company's goal was to make the site useful for
kids, parents, educators and health professionals. Visitors to the
site register as members to get e-mail updates and access to an
array of education materials. Once a visitor orders materials on
the site, the database stores their pertinent information for future
orders.
"We're really
excited about the new functionality, especially the registration
tool, because it gives us the opportunity to nurture relationships,"
said Maureen Bligh, the Dairy Council's project manager. "Not only
does (the design) look great, but it will help people get to the
heart of the Web site and access the information they need."
In 1995, sisters
Cathy and Sally Dew left West Palm Beach, Fla., for Oakland, where
they started Isys with a few computers in a one-room office. Cathy
Dew, the president, is an architect and computer scientist. Her
sister is the company's art director.
Still privately
held but now with 14 employees, a flashy Web presence at www.ideasystems.com
and a growing list of clients, the company's gross revenues hit
the $2 million mark in 1999, Isys said. The company hopes to continue
growing while also developing its own software tools for Web design.
