Oakland Residents Unite to Clean Up Neighborhood
(OAKLAND, Calif.,
July 31, 2000) - Isys partners Cathy and Sally Dew participated
in the 2nd annual Trash Bash on Saturday July 29th. Property and
business owners, and residents of the nine-block Waterfront Warehouse
District donated their time to pick up trash, chop weeds and sweep
sidewalks. More than 30 volunteers accumulated 60,000 gallons of
trash and weeds, covering a 14 block area. They also gathered debris
including a desk, box spring and mattress, and a lot of assorted
wood and metal.
The City's Clean
Oakland Program provided hand tools, supplies and trash collection
to support the Jack London Neighborhood Association's (JLNA) efforts.
The Port of Oakland donated refreshments, gifts and provided volunteers.
Cal Trans sent volunteers to clean up its own yard and helped with
nearby blocks.
"This was
a great way for us to give back to the community and meet some of
our neighbors," said Cathy Dew.
If you would
like to make a donation to help put trash receptacles throughout
the Waterfront Warehouse District or donate your time or services
for next year's Trash Bash, contact Wilda L. White from the JLNA
at wilda@jacklondon.net.
