FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bay Area Web Design Firm Engineers All-Inclusive Education and
Career Planning Web Site for MyRoad.com
(OAKLAND, Calif.,
June 27, 2000) - Woman-owned Isys Idea Systems, Inc. debuts the
latest design and technology solution for industry-leading education
and career planning web site: www.myroad.com.
Students no longer have to spend endless hours researching and dog
earring pages in college and course catalogs. Now they have an all-inclusive,
integrated, highly personalized online tool at their fingertips.
MyRoad.com launches
the most comprehensive education and career planning web site on
the Internet a valuable resource and online tool integrating
information on majors, colleges, careers, and the individual. By
combining quality content, compelling graphics, exemplary interface
design, and web-enabled technology, Isys positions MyRoad.com as
an integrated and highly personalized solution to exploring the
future while gaining exposure to countless life choices.
"MyRoad.com's
unmatched depth and quality of content combined with our design
and technical expertise makes this project really exciting," says
Cathy Dew, President of Isys Idea Systems, Inc. "We aren't just
building a website; we're making a difference."
"The contribution
and enthusiasm Isys brings to the development process is inspiring,"
says MyRoad.com founder John Casella. "Isys has become an integral
part of the MyRoad.com team, intensely involved in realizing our
vision."
The challenge
for Isys Idea Systems, Inc. was how to best organize and present
the potentially overwhelming amount of content contained in MyRoad.com.
With 61 majors (including 1,510 areas of interest), 42 careers,
and 3,608 colleges in the database, a visitor could easily get overwhelmed.
However, Myroad.com customizes the user experience by linking the
content to each individual's personal interests and aspirations.
Every section
of the site is designed to facilitate and enhance the education
and career planning process. Online tools are built to maximize
the advantages of the Internet. The result is a web site that offers
risk free exploration, access to industry experts, and a user-controlled
experience resulting in a relational, customized solution.
Visual Design
The design of MyRoad.com focuses on the interconnectedness of
the major elements majors, colleges, careers, and you. Photographic
images convey the "real world" nature of the site. "Isys has successfully
captured the visual essence of MyRoad.com," says Casella. "Life
is a journey with adventure and important choices along the way.
Finding your path is what MyRoad.com is all about."
User Interface
A streamlined user interface allows MyRoad.com to deliver content
density in a digestible way. A color-coded tab menu bar makes main
sections easily accessible. "Our goal was to design an approachable
web site that allows MyRoad.com content to speak to its audience,"
says Isys Creative Director Thom Smith.
Web-Enabled
Technology
Web-enabled tools are what make MyRoad.com a front-runner in the
industry. Co-developing with MyRoad.com, Isys leverages technology
to enhance the user experience. QuickStart surveys help students
specify preferences in majors, colleges, and careers in minutes.
The Personality Profiler offers students an in-depth look
at who they are and how their personal style could affect their
future. The My List widget collects all recommendations and
tagged majors, colleges, and careers in one easy location. The Colleges
Grid presents a powerful, comprehensive search tool based on
individual preferences. Listing entrance difficulty on one axis
and region of the country on the other, the Colleges Grid breaks
down the 3,608 colleges into manageable chunks. Through a series
of filters, students can further narrow down choices based on their
own criteria. Options include type of school, size and make-up of
student body, as well as major areas of study, sports, and religious
affiliation. Throughout MyRoad.com, students have the ability to
rate My Interest and log personal notes. Notes can be added
incrementally over multiple sessions, allowing students to develop
choices over time. Finally, My Plan pulls everything together
in one place. Items from My List, as well as personal information,
education background, and work experience, are organized in the
student's individual plan. As refinements in the planning process
occur, My Plan can be updated and printed for review with
parents, educators, and counselors.
